Version 0.10.0

Breaks compatibility
  • Half the world is now the Dark Zone: the register keeps no account of anything there.
  • Killing somebody who was not fighting you leaves a debt - and turns your name red over your head, in the chat and in the player list.
  • Reapers: elected the way the bench is, and paid to collect those debts.
  • Update your client. An old one will not get in - what travels on the wire has changed.

The client has to be updatedThis release changed the pack, and a client older than it is turned away at the door. Update the pack in the launcher before you next join.

The full list of changes

The Dark Zone

  • No ground can be claimed there, no border bars anybody, no road charges a fare, and nothing done there is written down or can be brought before a bench.
  • What you lose is not permission. It is the witness. Nothing stops you walking in - nothing here ever does.
  • The map in the game draws it in red, as a layer of its own you can switch off; the public map does not draw it at all, nor anybody standing in it.

Renegades

  • Kill a player who carries no mark and had not struck you in the last minute, and you owe them. It stands for a day, and a spree adds rather than resets.
  • It ends three ways: you pay it from your inbox, a reaper collects it off your body, or it lapses.
  • The second road to a mark is debt: being in the Dark Zone while the register says you owe what the Safe Zone would have collected.

Reapers

  • Three seats, the same term as the bench and the same election. For the first twenty minutes they are told which chunk a marked player is in - a direction, not a point.
  • The share is paid on top of the debt and never out of it: a bounty taken from what was collected is a reward the wronged party pays for.
  • No exemptions. A reaper who kills somebody unmarked is a renegade like anybody, and loses the seat at once.

Smaller things

  • Five new milestones and a guide chapter that reads its figures out of the code rather than out of a sentence.
  • If the world spawn ends up in the Dark Zone, the server says so in its log at start.
