Version 0.12.0

Breaks compatibility
  • Paying no longer takes the renegade mark off. Money settles the debt, not the killing.
  • The more you kill in a row, the longer you are hunted, the bigger the bounty and the tighter the net.
  • A reaper is shown a hexagon, not a chunk: roughly where, read once a minute rather than tracked.
  • You can see how long you stay a renegade - on the strip above the hotbar and in the inbox.
  • Whoever is hunted reads the same clock: how long until the next reading, and how wide the cell.

The client has to be updatedThis release changed the pack, and a client older than it is turned away at the door. Update the pack in the launcher before you next join.

The full list of changes

The debt and the mark are two things

  • A mark used to stand while something was owed, so paying cleared it at once. What that really cost was not the price - it was that the hunt never happened: the mark never outlived the payment, so no reaper ever had anybody to chase.
  • There are two clocks now. The debt is settled by paying, by being collected, or by lapsing. The hunt window is fixed at the killing, and nothing anybody can buy moves it.
  • Paying is still worth a great deal: it is the difference between being clean the moment the window closes and being marked until the debt itself ends.

One ladder

  • How many marks already stand is the rung. A first killing is a twenty-minute window. A second while hunted is an hour, a third is three, and after that twelve.
  • The reaper's bounty climbs the same ladder and the cell tightens with it. The price of a killing never climbs - the tenth costs what the first did.
  • A reaper who catches you ends the hunt even when there was nothing to take. The debt outlives it.

Hexagons

  • Once a minute the register looks at where you are and tells the reapers a cell, never a point. Between readings you can leave it, and what stays on their map is the old cell with its age written beside it.
  • It is a layer of its own on the Polis map; point at a chunk and the tip says who was seen there and how long ago.
  • No trail is ever drawn. Only the newest reading is kept, and none of them is written to disk.

How long is left

  • Nobody could ask this before, because the mark and the debt were one thing: pay and you were clean. They are two things now, so "when does this end" needed an answer of its own.
  • On the strip at a glance, and in the inbox among everything else standing against you. One number, counted against the server's clock.
  • Where the debt is paid and the mark still stands, the inbox line asks for nothing - there is nothing to press, only time left.
