Version 0.25.0

Breaks compatibility

The client has to be updatedThis release changed the pack, and a client older than it is turned away at the door. Update the pack in the launcher before you next join.

  • The game says what to do first: a welcome with your own keys, a Start here page, and a guide that opens on it.
  • The quest book is rewritten: shorter quests that say what to do and where, eight groups, and nothing locked behind reading a note.
  • The guide has diagrams: the sealed room, the airlock, the wellhead on a tap, the oil chain, the seal states, the layers with you on them.
  • Everything we added has a real look now: new 3D models for the oil works, the depot board, the charge and the Heart, and redrawn sprites, drums and fluids.
  • Create explains our blocks: Shift for a summary, W for a Ponder scene of the scrubber, the wellhead, the terminal and more.
  • A reason to go past the wall: the guide says what each layer holds, the zone's ores make some parts cheaper, and a few factory-scale machines need them.
The full list of changes

Before you update

  • The sledge, the litter and the shipping crate are gone. Unload them before the update: what stands in the world disappears with everything in it.
  • Lamp oil, paraffin, sealant and synthetic fibre are gone. Empty them from tanks, pipes, drums and your storage first; market orders for them disappear too.
  • A distillation tower now has four outputs, not five: on a tower already built, naphtha and bitumen come out one level lower, so move the pipes.
  • A pipeline meter placed before now lies along its own line when its chunk first loads. If the line is ambiguous it stays as it was: break it and place it again.

Getting started

  • On your first join the chat names the keys that open Polis, the guide and the quest book, in your own bindings.
  • With no land and no coin, Notifications offers three steps: claim a homestead, the mint and the guide.
  • New guide pages: Start here, What the Dark Zone holds, and Supplying the crews.
  • The market has a Demand sort: the goods with the best standing bids first.
  • The recipe viewer has information pages for filters, masks, drums, oil products and the zone's ores, and the masks, filters and a train's fuel tank say what they do.

The quest book

  • Eight groups in the order you meet them; lore and the optional chapters move down.
  • Each quest says what to do, why, and which guide page has more; every task says exactly what completes it.
  • Pictures on the second page of the quests that need them; nothing waits on reading a note.
  • New quests: chart a seep, haul a thousand buckets, and the first train.

A reason to go past the wall

  • Anthralite gives a cheaper sturdy sheet, phosphor dust a cheaper electron tube, and sulphur dust feeds a blaze burner.
  • The factory gauge, stock ticker and schematicannon take anthralite; the electric motor and alternator take corundum.
  • Monsters past the wall drop the ores of their layer.
  • Anthralite no longer comes from washing soul soil, nor sulphur from crushing basalt.

Items that earn their place

  • Masks are made from the pale filter; the black filter takes plastic sheet; lubricant is naphtha and bitumen; rounds are filled with naphtha.
  • A train's fuel tank is assembled through an incomplete fuel tank, sealed with bitumen.
  • A Create package weighs what is packed in it.
  • The duplicate farm oils are hidden from the recipe viewer.
