What changed in Everdawn

Every release of the mod, newest first: what changed for the player, and whether the client has to be updated. The notes come from the mod's own repository, so this page cannot drift from what was built.

  1. Version 0.24.0

    Breaks compatibility
    • A tap is held by a wellhead and a seal fed with lubricant; nobody owns a seep, and a tap is taken by cutting the seal, loudly, for half an hour.
    • Oil is heavy in every form: a full drum weighs a thousand and does not stack, and a loaded mule, chest boat or cart slows down. The road home is the railway and the pipe.
    • An oil terminal by the wall counts the oil that really came home, and only that oil counts for the haulers' roll.
    • A killing past the wall makes the killer a renegade who owes nothing: the hunt, the cells and the bounty stay, the fine does not.
    • Contracts gain a ceasefire and a guard; a well log is a crew's own witness, filed as paper at home.
    • Seep sites stand on the ground now, in four designs by layer; When Dungeons Arise and Immersive Armors are gone, Spartan Shields is in.

The client has to be updatedThis release changed the pack, and a client older than it is turned away at the door. Update the pack in the launcher before you next join.

  2. Version 0.23.0

    Breaks compatibility
    • A seep stands under an eternal flame: a tall ruined derrick with signal smoke, laid before anybody arrives.
    • Seeps are found, not stumbled on: the archive on the maps, survey maps in caches and a gas detector that smells sour gas.
    • A seep goes on the record only when somebody files a survey report; the first to file names it.
    • Oil sells by the drum, the market has an oil board, and contracts have presets for deliveries, carriage with a deposit, seep shares and survey sales.
    • Once a week the Heart breathes and the seeps flow double for two hours; each season the flow moves between a layer's seeps; a seep pumped hard draws the dead.
    • The web map now shows the Dark Zone out to Wall Maria, and the Safe Zone has common land nobody can title.

The client has to be updatedThis release changed the pack, and a client older than it is turned away at the door. Update the pack in the launcher before you next join.

  3. Version 0.22.0

    Breaks compatibility
    • The world was made again, on the same seed: the Safe Zone is humanity's last stronghold now, and nothing hostile stands in it.
    • Dungeons, arenas and camps all stand past the wall; no one lives in villages there, only their ruins.
    • Oil comes only from seeps: a few wells past the wall, infinite but slow, with a weekly limit. Whoever holds one pumps it.
    • Trains run on diesel or gasoline and nothing else.
    • Crude splits into five fractions; filters, better ammunition, grease and train tanks are made from them.
    • Past the Hush a scrubber burns fuel as well as filters.

The client has to be updatedThis release changed the pack, and a client older than it is turned away at the door. Update the pack in the launcher before you next join.

  4. Version 0.21.0

    Breaks compatibility
    • A new world, made once: the server was wiped and the whole 250,000-block world generated again.
    • One climate from the north edge to the south: ice cap, tundra, forests, temperate lands around spawn, then mediterranean, subtropics, savanna and desert, with natural edges.
    • The Dark Zone's seven layers were rebuilt: cracking land, tablelands and canyons, ash plains with eternal gas fires, ice needles, a drowned basin, the shattered Xendar and the Heart's craters.
    • The ruins of Wall Rose and Wall Maria run the length of the world, and old highways lead east through their gates.
    • Oil is here: Create: Diesel Generators, with fields only past the wall, richer the deeper you go.
    • Rifts: big holes into worlds ruined by the Wormhole War. Loot them, close them, and Polis remembers who did.

The client has to be updatedThis release changed the pack, and a client older than it is turned away at the door. Update the pack in the launcher before you next join.

  5. Version 0.20.0

    Breaks compatibility
    • The Polis window is rebuilt: deeper panels, clearer buttons, and every greyed-out button now tells you why.
    • The Court handles complaints and nothing else; the Council and Wanted have pages of their own, and your profile opens from the card at the foot of the sidebar.
    • The Council is a hemicycle of the judges' faces: hover a seat to see how long they have served and how many cases they heard.
    • Wanted shows at a glance who you are in a hunt, with a poster for every renegade: the bounty, the time left and a rough direction, never coordinates.
    • Player faces appear across the window, and a name leads to that player's profile.

The client has to be updatedThis release changed the pack, and a client older than it is turned away at the door. Update the pack in the launcher before you next join.

  6. Version 0.19.0

    Breaks compatibility
    • The Dark Zone is made again, with ground of its own: fissures in the Rose, mesas and canyons in Maria, the Ash plain, needles in the Hush, the Drowned's islands, the Unmade's chasms and the Heart's craters. The Safe Zone is untouched.
    • From fright to frontier: Cave Dweller, Whispering Spirits and Who's There are gone. What is left is hard survival for crews, slow but possible alone.
    • Carry freight in two: a Shipping Crate rides a two-handled litter, half the weight each. Carried on it into a sealed room, a downed friend stops bleeding out.
    • Supply lines: a Depot Board shows a room at a glance; a Consignment Chest turns a delivery into a waybill that settles a contract.
    • Deep seams from the Ash down - sulphur, black glass, ash iron and brine - worked by hand or with a Drill Rig on Create power. A Lung Pump worked by a friend clears a sleeper's air 4x faster.
    • The Heart is an operation: every valve falls in one twenty-second turn, to Heart Charges lit by redstone. The fifth layer is now the Drowned.

The client has to be updatedThis release changed the pack, and a client older than it is turned away at the door. Update the pack in the launcher before you next join.

  7. Version 0.18.0

    Breaks compatibility
    • Things now weigh what they are. Food is light, stone, ore and metal are heavy, Create's machines and storage blocks heavier still. A fighting kit costs nothing; a trip full of stone costs the sprint; a packed backpack of ore stops you. Hauling in bulk is a train's job.
    • A load is a price, never a door: you can always mount a horse or a boat and fly an elytra, however much you carry.
    • Your load is a sign left of the hotbar, in your language, from half the first step: a pip once you cannot sprint, red once you are overloaded. The old English text in the inventory and the anvil over the hotbar are gone.
    • The air past the wall counts in seconds. A leaking room, a backtank or a mask no longer reads 0s for its whole last minute.
    • Every item from past the wall that a player can come by has its own creative tab, Past the Wall, so JEI lists them and their recipes.

The client has to be updatedThis release changed the pack, and a client older than it is turned away at the door. Update the pack in the launcher before you next join.

  8. Version 0.17.1

    Fixes
    • The flashlight is gone from the pack. Its author allows it only where it is published, and it is not published on CurseForge, so it kept the pack out of the CurseForge app.
    • If your launcher updates the pack by itself, there is nothing to do: the mod is removed at your next start or join.
    • A flashlight or a battery you were carrying disappears with the mod. Flares and a torch in the hand still light the way.
  9. Version 0.17.0

    Breaks compatibility
    • The Dark Zone is now seven layers deep, from Rose at the wall to the Heart sixty-three kilometres past it, and every layer is harder and richer than the one before.
    • The sulphur air is a dose you carry: a roof no longer saves you, only a sealed room with a scrubber running does. Masks slow it, filters run out, and a Create backtank stops it while its air lasts.
    • Past the wall a lethal blow knocks you down for a minute instead of killing you, so a friend can pull you up. Radios, flares and flashlights help you find each other.
    • What is true of you and of the ground under you is now a row of signs beside the hotbar. Hold J to have them named.
    • The Heart itself is not built yet: its halls come in a later update, and until then nobody hears it beat. Update your pack - this version cannot be joined with the old one.

The client has to be updatedThis release changed the pack, and a client older than it is turned away at the door. Update the pack in the launcher before you next join.

  10. Version 0.16.1

    Fixes
    • Every setting that shapes the world is now pinned, and the wipe refuses to make a world without the right files.
  11. Version 0.16.0

    New abilities
    • The world is made for good and is 250 kilometres across: the climate changes gradually with latitude, colder towards the poles and hotter towards the equator, and repeats every forty kilometres, so every climate is within reach.
    • No more floating islands, fantasy biomes or palms on a temperate beach, and ocean monuments stand at least two kilometres apart.
    • The Dark Zone's poisoned air holds no villages: settlements and peaceful buildings stand only in the Safe Zone, and past the line there are ruined towns, abandoned camps and the dungeons with bosses and trials.
  12. Version 0.15.1

    Fixes
    • Standing as a reaper, backing a reaper and raising the flag work: the server had never been listening to those three buttons.
    • The map no longer stops drawing where you have just walked, and zooming no longer flickers or leaps.
    • The strip in the Dark Zone says where you are in plain words.
  13. Version 0.15.0

    New abilities
    • You can see the edge of the Dark Zone coming, on foot and on wings, and the strip above the hotbar says how far it is and which way.
    • Red boundaries show themselves when you come near; everything else waits for the border key. A toll road now has its own colour.
    • The map is drawn a block a pixel in the colours of the blocks themselves, with relief and water you can see into; it moves when you drag it, a right click asks what can be done there, and it zooms out much further.
  14. Version 0.14.6

    Breaks compatibility
    • The world starts again. Everything built, owned, earned or carried on the old one is gone - it is kept on the server, but nobody plays on it any more.
    • Everything the harsh mods add now exists past the line and nowhere else: their keeps, their ore and their weapons in chests. The safe half is Minecraft with machinery in it.
    • Your game needs nothing from you. The pack updates itself when you connect.
  15. Version 0.14.5

    Fixes
    • A link to the web map saved before it went flat now opens correctly. It used to open a three-dimensional view that had already been switched off - with nothing drawn in it and no button to leave it.
    • The ground around spawn is made out to 2500 blocks in every direction, so the map is filled in and walking somewhere new no longer waits for the world to be built.
    • Nothing is added to your game, and your client connects exactly as it did.
  16. Version 0.14.4

    Fixes
    • The web map fills itself in. It used to show only the ground somebody had already walked, and everything else was black - which looks like a broken map rather than an unvisited one.
    • Nothing is added to your game. The mod that does it runs on the server and is not in your download.
    • Your client will connect exactly as it did.
  17. Version 0.14.3

    Fixes
    • The Nether is no longer on the web map at all. Its Safe Zone was real and the register still keeps an account of it - there was simply no reason to publish a picture of it, and the picture was misleading.
    • Whether a dimension is charted and whether it is drawn are two questions now. They were one setting, which meant taking a map off the website would have made that whole dimension lawless.
    • Nothing about where the register goes quiet has moved. Your client will connect exactly as it did.
  18. Version 0.14.2

    Fixes
    • Seasons are gone. Four mods, a chapter of the book and four pinned settings with them - the winters never earned what they cost to keep.
    • The web map stops drawing your buildings. It is flat now: it says where a place is and whose it is, and no longer shows anybody with the address what is on your roof.
    • And it is in Everdawn's own colours now, with a dark theme for reading it at night.
    • That is also ninety-two per cent of what the map weighed, so it draws faster and takes a fraction of the room.
    • Nothing here changes the mod. Your client will connect exactly as it did.
  19. Version 0.14.1

    Fixes
    • Ore stops being doubled in two machines that were quietly doing it: Farm & Charm's mincer paid three iron or gold an ore, and Scorched Guns' macerator paid two netherite scrap a debris.
    • Emerald is held at one an ore too. Villagers buy with it, so it is a currency whether or not anybody calls it one.
    • The jetpack module is gone. There is no potion of flying in this world and there should not be a machine for it either.
    • One chunk loader instead of two, and it costs what it earns: four precision mechanisms and four netherite ingots.
    • Nothing in this release changes the mod. Your client will connect exactly as it did.
  20. Version 0.14.0

    Breaks compatibility
    • Self-defence works. For three releases every killing wrote a mark, including a killing in answer to being attacked.
    • A hunt ends when the quarry falls, whoever or whatever felled them - and anybody may end one, while only a seat is paid for having run one.
    • The cell stands in the world: six pylons and a red curtain you can walk through, for the hunters and for the hunted alike.
    • Past the line the air turns sulphurous. Three bands, and a respirator is the answer to two of them.
    • Something out there is worth the walk: named blades, a metal that drops nowhere else, armour that is found rather than made, a pearl that calls a boss - and every boss in this pack, none of which stands on the charted side any more.
    • Update your client. An old one will not get in - what travels on the wire has changed.

The client has to be updatedThis release changed the pack, and a client older than it is turned away at the door. Update the pack in the launcher before you next join.

  21. Version 0.13.1

    New abilities
    • A bell for the reapers when a new name appears on the roll, and a low chime for the hunted five seconds before a reading.
    • The strip above the hotbar says how many reapers are in the world right now.
    • The server counts the hunt's week: marks, sentences, catches, payments and crossings of the line. For whoever runs the server, not for play.
  22. Version 0.13.0

    Breaks compatibility
    • The hunt runs only while you are in the world: logging out is not a way to wait it out. Self-defence is the first blow, not any blow.
    • A sentence of the bench is served in the world, not off it: outlawed, red-named, with the reapers told where you are, until the minutes run out or you are caught.
    • Coin can be put on a renegade's head - your own or a city's treasury. It goes to whoever catches them, or back if nobody does.
    • Past the line there is a black market and there are caches. The counter answers only there, and the coin you pay it stops existing.
    • Update your client. An old one will not get in - what travels on the wire has changed.

The client has to be updatedThis release changed the pack, and a client older than it is turned away at the door. Update the pack in the launcher before you next join.

  23. Version 0.12.0

    Breaks compatibility
    • Paying no longer takes the renegade mark off. Money settles the debt, not the killing.
    • The more you kill in a row, the longer you are hunted, the bigger the bounty and the tighter the net.
    • A reaper is shown a hexagon, not a chunk: roughly where, read once a minute rather than tracked.
    • You can see how long you stay a renegade - on the strip above the hotbar and in the inbox.
    • Whoever is hunted reads the same clock: how long until the next reading, and how wide the cell.

The client has to be updatedThis release changed the pack, and a client older than it is turned away at the door. Update the pack in the launcher before you next join.

  24. Version 0.11.2

    Fixes
    • A player with a mark beside their name was being dropped from the server. Fixed.
    • It showed as "Connection lost: Connection reset" and happened as soon as anybody held a renegade, reaper or judge mark.
    • Update the server. The client does not have to be updated.
  25. Version 0.11.1

    Fixes
    • A role is a mark before the name now: ☠ renegade, ⚔ reaper, ★ judge. Hover a mark and it says what it means.
    • The word no longer repeats on every line of chat, and the colon keeps its place.
    • The reapers tab spoke the council's words - "Stand for the council" on the reapers' page. Fixed.
  26. Version 0.11.0

    Breaks compatibility
    • The Dark Zone line now stands in the world - you see it as you walk up to it, not only on a map.
    • A reapers tab: put yourself forward, back somebody, see who sits.
    • A reaper reads the hunt - who is marked, what they owe and which chunk they are in while the mark is hot.
    • Judges and reapers are named in the chat and in the player list. Over a head, only a renegade is.
    • Update your client. An old one will not get in.

The client has to be updatedThis release changed the pack, and a client older than it is turned away at the door. Update the pack in the launcher before you next join.

  27. Version 0.10.0

    Breaks compatibility
    • Half the world is now the Dark Zone: the register keeps no account of anything there.
    • Killing somebody who was not fighting you leaves a debt - and turns your name red over your head, in the chat and in the player list.
    • Reapers: elected the way the bench is, and paid to collect those debts.
    • Update your client. An old one will not get in - what travels on the wire has changed.

The client has to be updatedThis release changed the pack, and a client older than it is turned away at the door. Update the pack in the launcher before you next join.

  28. Version 0.9.1

    Fixes
    • The map now shows two zones: the charted one in a pale light, and the frontier in red.
    • Before this the frontier was simply black, and black on this map also means "nobody has walked here" - the two could not be told apart.
    • The line is drawn off the world border itself, so the picture and the wall a player walks into say the same thing.
  29. Version 0.9.0

    New abilities
    • A map of the registry: map.everdawn.net - territories, their holders, debts and plots for sale, in a browser and without an account.
    • Half the world is not on it. East of the line nothing is drawn: no ground, no borders, and nobody standing there.
    • The world has a border now, and it runs along that same line - the two halves are the same size.
  30. Version 0.8.1

    Fixes
    • The quest book is rebuilt: the same quests, rewards and dependencies as 0.8.0.
    • The change is in how the pack is assembled - nothing in the mod itself moved.
  31. Version 0.8.0

    New abilities
    • A quest book: 27 chapters and 224 quests, from the first night to the court.
    • Fifty more mods: biomes, a homestead, seasons, roads and carts.
    • The registry now marks what you did - thirty-four milestones in the advancement tab.

The client has to be updatedThis release changed the pack, and a client older than it is turned away at the door. Update the pack in the launcher before you next join.

  32. Version 0.7.0

    New abilities
    • A Discord account is now proven from inside the game: the bot gives a code, you type /polis link in the world - and only then does the registry write to you directly.
    • Discord has /me - your card with balance, land and what is waiting on you, /whois - anybody's public record, and /notify - how much to be told.
    • The bot says by itself when access opens, closes, or a payment fails with seven days left.
    • Every complaint in Discord is a thread of its own with a clock: when the bench may decide and when the complaint lapses.
    • City names and nicknames in the registry no longer turn into italics or links, and a breach's reason in the Ukrainian channel is in Ukrainian.
  33. Version 0.6.0

    New abilities
    • A broken contract is no longer a dead end: the culprit's promise can be disputed and an unpaid sum claimed before the bench for six days after the closing.
    • A contract term now names both sides: you can write "you owe me", not only "I owe you".
    • The Bench tab shows who judges now, apart from the ballot for the next term.
    • Zooming and dragging the map no longer answers with "Too many requests".
    • The guide has a Contracts topic, and a server owner can change the minimum number of judges in polis-rules.json.
  34. Version 0.5.0

    New abilities
    • The Polis window now reads at the largest GUI scale: no names cut to three letters, no text over the buttons.
    • The Polis window has a size of its own - the − and + tiles in its header, or Ctrl with +, − and 0, whatever the game's scale.
    • On a narrow screen a list and its page take turns, with a Back button.
    • Anything shortened can be read in full - rest the cursor on it, and a button's label scrolls to show its end.
    • The strip above the hotbar and the money notices wrap to a second line instead of cutting off.
  35. Version 0.4.0

    Breaks compatibility
    • Everdawn is already in the server list - install the pack and the address is there.
    • Any launcher will do now, the official one included.
    • When the pack is out of date the server says what to do, in words, instead of a technical screen.
    • The server's version shows in the server list before you connect.
    • Sixteen mods moved to newer builds.

The client has to be updatedThis release changed the pack, and a client older than it is turned away at the door. Update the pack in the launcher before you next join.

  36. Version 0.3.0

    Breaks compatibility
    • The Polis window opens on a new key — P went back to vanilla social interactions.
    • What the registry says to you personally now reaches you in Discord, even when you are not in the game.
    • Chat, the player list and the nameplates now say who is who.
    • The market fee is counted per order rather than per settlement: splitting a purchase no longer pays.
    • Selling ground settles its arrears out of the price first.
    • The watch records fire and fluid from what actually happened in the world, not from where a click landed.

The client has to be updatedThis release changed the pack, and a client older than it is turned away at the door. Update the pack in the launcher before you next join.

  37. Version 0.2.1

    New abilities
    • A Guide inside the Polis window: rules, prices and deadlines, read from the code that enforces them.
    • The section rail folds, instead of taking half a small window.
    • Enclosed ground always has a way out, and one cannot be manufactured.
  38. Version 0.2.0

    New abilities
    • Polis is now built for Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge as well — the same mod, a separate file.
    • Linking an account through Discord: /link ties the game to Discord.
  39. Version 0.1.0

    New abilities
    • The first release of Polis: a land register, money, a market, contracts and a court, all inside the game.
    • A map that remembers: who holds what, where the lines run, and what was done on your ground while you were away.
    • Roads their holder charges for, and borders you can read standing on the ground.
    • The registry records and never prevents: a closed border shows a wall you can walk through.
